annoyed...

Yesterday, while at school, a sweet little old lady (or so I thought) came in for a perm. I had NEVER done a perm on a real person..just Lucy (mannequin). Of course I was a little nervous and shakey because most of the time I would just throw some perm rods on Lucy's head and call it good. She was totally nice and patient at first. I had to have the help of Vicki, my learning leader, quite a few times. This lady, we will call her Betsy, had really short hair. I was seriously struggling. After like an hour, I got all of the perm rods in. Betsy was getting a little irritated. She then told me a story about her going to the WalMart salon about a month ago to get a perm and it was gone the next day. I was feeling kind of sympathetic because the manager and the WalMart salon was just plain rude. Anyway, I had just put the perm solution on, which smells really horribly.. My LL had said to check it after 10 minutes but not to leave it on longer than 20. At about the ten minute mark, I checked it but it wasn't finished. The time just flew by and by the time I knew it, it had been 20 minutes but the perm wasn't done. Betsy was freaking out about it "frying her hair off". I had read the box and it said 25-30 minutes. I explained to my LL that she was freaking out and he said "if she wants it off, take it off. who cares what it looks like if she is being rude". So..I decided to wash it off. As soon as I had washed it out, she was saying she needed to get out of there. She was being just plain rude to me. By that time, I had honestly had enough. Betsy still had to air neutralize for at least 10 minutes and then I had to put the neutralizer on for five minutes and then finally wash her out. The whole entire time, she was just complaining and being rude to me because it was taking so long. I went and talked to my LL and he just said "tell her it's procedure and if she wants this stupid perm to actually work this time, maybe she should cooperate". It finally came time for her to leave, and believe me, I was PRAISING THE LORD! I just sat there and thought, "I honestly do not care what her stupid hair looks like".

Maybe, she should realize that going to a school for a perm is going to take longer because we are STUDENTS who are LEARNING! Sheesh. I was seriously. fed. up. My LL was like "you are going to get clients like that. I know you already hate her but really, I hate lots of my clients too." That made me feel so much better. :)

I think I realize why her last perm didn't work out....the hairstylist at the Wal-Mart salon was sick of her too. :)

Oh and to top it all off...she didn't even tip me.
